Marilyn Rush-Ekleberry
Rush-Ekleberry began her first term on Canal Winchesters Council in January 2008. In addition to serving as Councils representative to the Old Town Committee, Rush-Ekleberry has several priorities while in office, including:
Sustainable commercial development in targeted areas to ensure a stable tax base for the community and its schools.
Quality housing that maintains the high property values of current residents and doesn't overburden schools.
Continued support of Canal Winchesters Historic Downtown District and its merchants so that Canal Winchester is able to continue its status as a quaint village community.
As a dedicated member of the community, Rush-Ekleberry has spent several years serving Canal Winchester. She was appointed by the mayor to a four year term on the Landmarks Commission in 1984, served four years with the Canal Winchester Convention & Visitors Bureau, and was appointed to the Canal Winchester Industry & Commerce Corporation where she was President for two years. She also served as Director of the Canal Winchester Area Chamber of Commerce for six years and Trustee of the Canal Winchester Historical Society for eight years. Rush-Ekleberry is currently a member of the finance committee for Main Street Canal Winchester, Treasurer of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #220, a member of the Grant Women's Service Board for Grant Medical Center, a member of Davids Evangelical Lutheran Church and is active in the Music Ministry Program.
Rush-Ekleberry has been retired since 1991, and previously worked in the banking industry for more than 20 years and in the engineering field for 10 years. She is a Notary Public for the State of Ohio and has been since 1969, and has received associate degrees in Consumer Lending from Kent State University and Commercial Lending from Miami University.
Councilwoman Rush-Ekleberry is a graduate of Canal Winchester High School and has been a resident of the community since 1933. She currently resides at 124 Beaty Court at the home she purchased with her late husband, Dick T. Ekleberry, in 1990. She has one son, Phillip L. Rush, who lives in Gahanna with his wife and two daughters. In her free time, Rush-Ekleberry enjoys bicycling, playing piano and singing in the choir at church, gardening, exercising, walking her dog, Ginger, and playing an occasional game of golf.
